An Experiment: #PercyPig Rice Krispy Squares

Inspired by the deliciousness of microwaved Percy Pigs, I decided to try using them to make Rice Krispy cakes.

I found a simple recipe for rice krispy squares and adapted it to include Percy Pigs as well as raspberry and grape flavours.

Ingredients:

  • Unsalted Butter (50g)
  • 1 bag of Percy Pigs from M&S (170g)
  • White & pink mini marshmallows (about 50g)
  • Rice Krispies (150g)
  • 10 large Raisins (chopped up very small)
  • 5 fresh raspberries (chopped up small)

Method:

Cut up the Percy pigs into little pieces to help them melt quicker.

Melt the butter slowly over a low heat. Use a saucepan that you can put in the dishwasher as this could bet sticky.

Add the Percy Pig pieces and the marshmallows to the melted butter, stir frequently until all melted.

Take off the heat and add the rice krispies slowly, making sure they are well coated.

Spread half of the krispy mixture in a dish lined with greese proof paper. Sprinkle over the raisin and raspberry bits.

Then layer the rest of the krispy mixture on top.

Leave to cool before cutting into squares.

Notes:

  • If I could get hold of dried raspberries then I think they would be better. I'll let you know if I find somewhere that sells them.
  • I put in a little bit of Percy Pig fruit juice to thin the sticky pig-mallow, I think this made them a little soggy - I would advise against doing that.

My No. 1 life lesson from #StarTrek

Inspired by a post I saw today from David Borgenicht on the Huffington Post, 7 Life Lessons You Can Learn From 'Star Trek', I got to thinking about the one piece of Trek wisdom that I always come back to.

Whenever I doubt myself, start second guessing what I should do or wondering what other people will think of me, I go to this one simple statement;

"If we're going to be damned, let's be damned for what we really are." ~ Captain Picard in Encounter At Farpoint

If you can stay true to yourself, then no matter how you are judged at least it was genuine. If you fail at a job interview and you did all the things a “guru” told you to – wouldn’t you always wonder if you’d have been better off just being yourself?

The same goes for making friends, going on dates and court appearances at the whim of an omnipotent super-being...

The Night Before #TweetCamp

T’was the night before #tweetcamp and all through the Yurt,
not a creature was stirring, not even @TweetCampFox.
The Swag Bags were hung round the campfire with care,
in hope that @teapigs soon would be there.

The attendees were nestled all snug in their beds,
Visions of @MilliesCookies danced in their heads
With @AngelaH57 in her kerchief and I in my sourcing hat,
Had just settled our netbooks for a long night of charge.

When out in the campsite arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my camp bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the tent-flap I flew like a flash,
unzipped the door and threw up the sash.

The moon on the lake where the diver emerged
Gave light to his wrinkles, too long submerged.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But @dtsn & @timmorgan, all full of beer.

With a little old spectre, so deadly and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be @TweetCampGhost.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whooshed, and moaned, and drove them insane!

Now @PeopleBrowser, Now Monster, Now @MediaCom and @Indigo,
Go @PerfectInfo, go RS, go Global Integration,
To the top of the school! to the top of the wall!
Now tweet away! Tweet away! Tweet away all!"

As dry ground befell us and sent subsidence our way,
The team met with this obstacle, @ClaireatWaves saved the day!
So up to the Fine Line near Monument we flew,
With A Spotify Playlist and Cocktails too.

With one last check of my tweets (thanks to @NexusGlobalnet),
Now to settle my bones, back on the camp-bed I’ll get,
I saw one last message as I put my phone out of sight
“Happy #tweetcamp to all, and to all a good-night!”

The Analytics Of Wearing A Red Shirt #StarTrek

{EAV_BLOG_VER:8cfeaac9530aefbc} - please ignore this code - it's for reasons of an Empire Avenue nature...

I just found this brilliant post, Analytics according to Captain Kirk, by Matt Bailey from 2007.

If you have ever wondered what the key might be to upping your life expectancy on the Starship Enterprise, then it's the read for you. There's also a fantastic chart at the end...

Today in 1964 Gene Roddenberry submitted the first draft proposal for #StarTrek

This revealing document was created by Gene Roddenbury as the pitch for Star Trek The Original Series.

I love the descriptions of the female characters;

He describes "Number One" as

...Almost mysteriously female, in fact -- Slim and dark in a Nile Valley sort of way, age uncertain, one of those women who will always look the same between years twenty to fifty. An extrordinarilly efficient officer, "Number One" enjoys playing it expressionless, cool -- is probably [Captain] Robert April's superior in detailed knowledge of the multiple equipment systems, departments and crew members aboard the vessel.

And the Captain's Yeoman is

...blonde with a shape even a uniform could not hide. She serves as Robert April's secretary, reporter, bookkeeper and undoubtedly wishes she could also serve him in more personal departments. She is not dumb; she is very female. disturbingly so.

Oh to be either "mysteriously female" or "disturbingly female" :)

Buffy The Vampire Slayer first aired today in 1997 #btvs

I was writing a review for Buffy The Vampire slayer on GetGlue and wanted to sound terribly well informed so I did a bit of poking around.

I found this preview trailer for Buffy's premier on 10th March 1997 detailing some history of the slayer line. It's almost like Joss and the gang knew the ark the whole series would take! :)

If you use GetGlue, please feel free to vote up my review ;)
